Theology
Christology
In this class, students will explore the person and mission of Jesus Christ by engaging with Gospel narratives and key theological concepts expressed in the Church’s worship, structure, and moral life. The course seeks to form disciples who live with the firm gentleness modeled by Christ in every circumstance. Through this study, participants will deepen their understanding of the mystery of Christ and learn to recognize His living presence in their own lives and in the life of the Church.

February 5 - April 30 (No Classes on Feb 12, Mar 12 & Apr 2)
Instructor: Father Mark Salas is the Pastor of Our Lady of Assumption Parish in El Paso, Texas. He also serves as the Associate State Chaplain for the Texas State Council of the Knights of Columbus. Born in Hammond, Louisiana, and raised in the city of El Paso, he has great experience in supporting different religious communities and organizations throughout the Diocese.
Church Fathers
Today’s world calls for a Church that is close to the people, with a solid spirituality and reliable sources of inspiration. The Church Fathers (such as St. Augustine, St. Gregory the Great, St. Justin Martyr, among many others) are precisely that: privileged witnesses of the origins of Christianity, bearers of authentic wisdom and a living faith that continues to enlighten the Church today. In this class, we will study these great authors, whose intellect and heart have left a spiritual and cultural richness that remains ever relevant.

Frebruary 3 - April 14 (No class on March 31)
Instructor: Deacon Fernando Jimenez was ordained a permanent deacon of the Diocese of El Paso by Bishop Mark Seitz on January 25, 2025. He holds a Doctorate in Marketing from Oklahoma State University and a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies from the University of St. Thomas / St. Mary’s Seminary of Houston. He has been a professor at UTEP for over 16 years. He is currently exercising his diaconate ministry at St. Luke Parish.
Bible Studies
The Pentateuch
The first five books of the Bible — Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy — tell the beginning of God’s story with His people. From the beauty of Creation to the journey of the Israelites in the desert, the Pentateuch reveals God’s plan of salvation taking shape. In this class, we will explore the key themes, covenants, and foundational principles found within these sacred books.

Instructor: Deacon Pedro Garcia was ordained as a permanent deacon by Bishop Mark Seitz on January 25, 2025, at the Diocese of El Paso. He holds a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies from the University of St. Thomas / St. Mary’s Seminary of Houston. He is doing his diaconate ministry at Our Lady of the Light parish. He currently serves as Music and Arts Teacher at Father Yermo Catholic School.
The Historical Books
This class explores the rich narratives of Israel’s history, from the entrance into the Promised Land to the return from exile centuries later. Through the lives of remarkable figures such as Joshua, King David, Esther, and the Maccabees, participants will discover how God faithfully guides His people. By studying these stories, students will gain insight into God’s providence and the enduring lessons of faith, courage, and leadership that continue to inspire His people today.

Instructor: Guadalupe “Lupe” Gonzalez, MAPS holds a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. She currently serves at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church and brings extensive experience in Religious Formation for catechists, leading Bible Study sessions in her community, and addressing catechetical and sacramental needs of Catholics in rural communities through bilingual leadership training. With her wealth of experience, she is one of the most experienced and dedicated faculty members of the Tepeyac Institute.

Jesús no es sólo un personaje histórico, sino una persona viva que podemos conocer hoy. A través del estudio de la Cristología, profundizaremos en el conociemiento de Jesucristo y su obra de salvación Conocer a Jesús implica descrbrir cuánto nos ama Dios y cómo nos guía en la vida, los que nos lleva a comprometernos y vivir de manera más intensa nuestro camino. Esta clase nos invita a establecer una conexión más profunda con Jesús.

Instructor: Deacon Guillermo y Jessica Trejo. Guillermo es un diácono permanente ordenado en la Diócesis de El Paso por el Obispo Mark Seitz el 25 de Enero del 2025. Guillermo y Jessica tienen Maestrías en Estudios Pastorales otorgadas por la Universidad de Santo Tomas / Seminario de Santa María en Houston. Jessica es directora de la Escuela Católica de St. Joseph. Ambos llevan a cabo sus ministerios en la parroquia de San Francisco de Asis.

El mundo actual reclama una Iglesia cercana, con una espiritualidad sólida y fuentes seguras de inspiración. Los Padres de la Iglesia (como San Agustín, San Gregorio Magno, San Justino Mártir, entre muchos otros), son precisamente eso: testigos privilegiados de los orígenes del cristianismo, portadores de una sabiduría auténtica y de una fe viva que sigue iluminando a la Iglesia hoy. En esta clase estudiaremos a estos grandes autores cuya inteligencia y corazón han dejado una riqueza espiritual y cultural siempre vigente.

Pentateuco
El Pentateuco comprende el libro del Génesis, Éxodo,Levítico, Números y Deuteronomio. El libro del Génesisnarra los orígenes de la creación, la torre de Babel (Gn 1–11) y la historia de los patriarcas (Gn 12–50). Los libros del Exodo, Levítico, Números y Deuteronomio narran los acontecimientos de la liberación de los hebreos de Egipto, desde el nacimiento de Moisés hasta su muerte. Te invitamos a descubrir por qué estos cinco libros de la Biblia son importantes para todo cristiano.

Instructor: Diácono Alejandro Caballero es un diácono permanente de la Diócesis de El Paso, quien fue ordenado por el Obispo Mark Seitz el 25 de Enero del 2025. Alejandro tiene una Maestría en Estudios Pastorales otorgada por la Universidad de Santo Tomás / Seminario de Santa María de Houston y una Licenciatura en Relaciones Comerciales del Instituto Tecnologico de Chihuahua. Actualmente desempeña su ministerio en la Parroquia de San Francisco de Asís.

Esta clase explora las narrativas de la historia de Israel, desde la entrada a la Tierra Prometida hasta el regreso del exilio siglos después. A través de las vidas de figuras notables como Josué, el rey David, Ester y los Macabeos, los participantes descubrirán cómo Dios guía fielmente a su pueblo. Al estudiar estas historias, los estudiantes obtendrán una comprensión más profunda de la providencia de Dios y de las enseñanzas perdurables sobre la fe, el valor y el liderazgo que continúan inspirando a su pueblo hoy.

Instructor: Diácono Felipe de Jesús Barraza fue ordenado diácono permanente de la Diócesis de El Paso por el Obispo Mark Seitz el 25 de Enero del 2025. Tiene una Maestría en Estudios Pastorales de la Universidad de Santo Tomás / Seminario de Santa María de Houston y un Bachillerato y Maestría en Educación otorgado por UTEP. El ha sido un educador, director, y administrador de algunas escuelas en la ciudad de El Paso. Actualmente lleva a cabo su ministerio diaconal en San Patricio Canutillo y el Inmaculado Corazón de María en Westway.
