Theology
What We Believe: The Creed
What do Catholics believe in? And why does it matter? This course unpacks the Creed as a simple yet profound summary of the Catholic faith. Centered on belief in God the Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the Church, the Creed expresses a living relationship with the God who created us, saves us, and calls us into communion. Students will explore how this profession of faith shapes our identity, our hope, and our mission.

Instructor: Deacon Felipe de Jesus Barraza is a permanent deacon of the Diocese of El Paso, who was ordained by Bishop Mark Seitz on January 25, 2025. Felipe received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education by UTEP and has been an educator, principal and administrator at some schools in the City of El Paso. He will receive his Master’s Degree in Pastoral Studies by the University of St. Thomas / St. Mary’s Seminary of Houston, Texas this fall semester.
What we Believe: Fundamental Theology
This course explores the foundations of our Catholic faith: Why do we believe? How is faith transmitted? What is the relationship between faith and reason? Through an introduction to Revelation, Scripture and Tradition, and the teaching role of the Church, students will reflect on the credibility of faith and how theology understands itself. This is a great starting point for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of how and why we come to believe.

Instructor: Fr. Ken Ducre is pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He received a Graduate Degree in Fundamental Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. He has collaborated as Adjunct Professor in the Religious Studies Program and in the College of Education at UTEP.

Biblical Interpretation
Why is the Bible sometimes hard to understand? How do we know we are interpreting it faithfully? This course explores how the Church approaches the interpretation of Scripture, balancing scholarly methods with faith and tradition. Students will gain tools to read the Bible as both a human and divine word, and to understand its meaning for today’s world.

Instructor: Susana Gonzalez, MAPS is an Ysleta High School and the University of Texas at El Paso graduate with a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies from St. Thomas University at Houston. She has taught undergraduate education courses at UTEP. She is a retired teacher and administrator with thirty-eight years of teaching experience.
The Covenants: Salvation History
This course offers a big-picture view of the Bible by exploring the key covenants God makes with His people—from Adam to Jesus. Students will discover how these covenants form a single story of God’s plan to save humanity and bring us into His family. Ideal as an introduction to Scripture, the class reveals how the whole Bible points to Christ and the Eucharist.

Instructor: Oscar Barreda Jr. holds a Masters Degree in Pastoral Studies from the University of St. Thomas/St. Mary’s Seminary School of Theology in Houston, TX, and a Bachelor of Science in Management and Computer Information Systems. He has served on the faculty of the Tepeyac Institute since 2013 with a specialization in Lector Development and Christian Formation.

En Que Creemos?: El Credo
¿En qué creemos los católicos? ¿Y por qué es importante saberlo? Este curso presenta el Credo como un sencillo pero profundo resumen de la fe Católica. Centrado en creer en Dios, el Padre, Jesucristo, el Espíritu Santo, y la Iglesia, el Credo expresa una relación viva con el Dios que nos creó, salvó, y nos llama a la comunión. Los estudiantes explorarán como esta profesión de fe forma nuestra identidad, esperanza, y misión.

Instructor: Patricia Torres tiene una Certificación en Teología por el Programa del Diaconado Permanente de la Diócesis de El Paso. Obtuvo su diplomado en Desarrollo Humano y Espiritualidad Ignaciana por la Universidad IBERO México, y un Diplomado de Educación para la Paz y Justicia Restaurativa por la ITESO Guadalajara y CFIC. Ha completado varios cursos de Teología con el Instituto McGrath de la Universidad de Notre Dame. Tiene amplia experiencia como catequista y directora de coros en la Diócesis de El Paso.
Por Que Creemos?: Teologia Fundamental
Este curso explora los fundamentos de nuestra fe católica: ¿Por qué creemos? ¿Cómo se transmite la fe? ¿Cuál es la relación entre la fe y la razón? A través de una introducción a la Revelación, la Escritura y la Tradición, y al papel docente de la Iglesia, los estudiantes reflexionarán sobre la credibilidad de la fe y cómo la teología se entiende a sí misma. Este curso es un excelente punto de partida para quienes buscan una comprensión más profunda de cómo y por qué llegamos a creer.

Instructor: La clase será guiada por un equipo de instructores de la facultad del Instituto Tepeyac, quienes abordarán los temas esenciales de la Teología Fundamental, como la Revelación, la credibilidad de la fe, el desarrollo de la teología y el papel de la Iglesia, desde una perspectiva especializada, sólida y complementaria.

Interpretacion Biblica
¿Por qué a veces resulta difícil entender la Biblia? ¿Cómo sabemos que la interpretamos fielmente? Este curso explora cómo la Iglesia aborda la interpretación de las Sagradas Escrituras, complementando los métodos académicos, la fe y la tradición. Los estudiantes adquirirán herramientas para leer la Biblia como palabra humana y divina, y para comprender su significado para el mundo actual.

Instructor: Federico Ferreiro, MA es ingeniero en sistemas y educador por vocación. Tiene una Maestría en Teología y Liderazgo por la Universidad Jesuita Gonzaga, formación en espiritualidad ignaciana y estudios bíblicos en el Seminario San Juan María Vianney (Denver). Forma parte del equipo de Animación Bíblica de la Diócesis de Ciudad Juárez . Junto con su esposa Estela, sirve en la parroquia de San Judas Tadeo en El Paso, TX.
Las Alianzas: Historia de la Salvacion
Para comprender mejor el mensaje de la Biblia, es importante tomar una perspectiva desde arriba que nos permita vislumbrar el plan de Salvación que Dios ofrece a la humanidad. Esta clase ofrece una visión panorámica de la historia bíblica, desde el Génesis hasta el Apocalipsis, destacando las grandes alianzas que Dios establece con su pueblo. Al entender este plan, podremos aplicarlo a nuestra vida diaria y enfrentar los retos con una nueva mirada, iluminada por la obra y el amor de Dios.

Instructor: Diacono Jesus Cardenas es actualmente director del Instituto Tepeyac y la Oficina del Diaconado Permanen-te. Tiene 17 años de ordenado como diacono en la Diócesis de El Paso. Cuenta con un doctorado, dos maestrías y un bachillerato de Ingeniería. Actualmente ejerce su ministerio en la parroquia de San Marcos.
